How it works

What each installation involves.

The scope, the approvals and the paperwork behind each technology. Technical detail and figures →

Solar PV and battery storage

  • Roof survey: pitch, orientation, structural condition and shading assessment
  • System sized to actual consumption, not roof area
  • DNO notification under G98, or prior approval under G99 for larger arrays
  • Battery and inverter selection, with storage sized to self-consumption
  • Export metering and registration for a Smart Export Guarantee tariff
  • Handover pack: schematics, commissioning records and warranties

EV charging

  • Supply assessment and main fuse rating check before specification
  • Dedicated circuit with the RCD protection required by BS 7671
  • Load management where the existing supply will not carry the full load
  • Smart charge points meeting the 2021 charge point regulations
  • Back-office, access control and billing for shared or commercial units
  • Installation notified and certified on completion

Heat pumps

  • Room-by-room heat loss calculation before anything is specified
  • Emitter and pipework review — undersized radiators are the usual failure point
  • Electrical supply upgrade where the existing board cannot carry the unit
  • Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant of £7,500, or £9,000 for off-gas-grid homes
  • Controls and metering set up for the running costs the design assumed
  • Commissioning records and a documented handover

Common questions

Renewables FAQs.

Will solar actually pay for itself?

That's the first thing we work out. The survey includes shading and payback calculations for your roof and usage — if the numbers don't work, we'll tell you.

Can you do the whole heat pump job, not just the electrics?

Yes. Heat loss calculations, sizing, the electrical installation and connection into your heating system — one contractor, start to finish.

Who handles the grid paperwork?

We do. DNO applications (G98/G99) are submitted as part of the job, and we'll point you at the best export tariff for your setup.

Got a complicated job? Tell us about it.

We'll take a look and give you a straight answer on price and timescale.
